1960s British Mid-Century Teak and Rosewood Sideboard by Robert Macarthur for Vanson
£1750.00
A beautifully designed and exceptionally well-crafted British mid-century sideboard, designed by Robert Macarthur for Vanson and dating from circa 1963.
Vanson was the trade name used by respected British furniture manufacturer W. G. Evans & Sons Ltd, a company recognised for producing high-quality modern furniture during the 1950s and 1960s. This particular model was introduced at the Manchester Furniture Exhibition in 1963 and was one of the company’s more sophisticated and costly designs.
The sideboard has a wonderfully balanced and sculptural form, distinguished by its beautifully curved ends and contrasting teak and rosewood veneers. The richly figured rosewood cupboard fronts create a striking contrast with the warm teak top and four central drawer fronts, while the original rosewood handles add a refined decorative detail.
The cabinet is raised on an elegant solid teak pedestal base, incorporating two shaped supports joined by a long central stretcher. This gives the sideboard a light, architectural appearance while providing excellent stability.
Behind the two outer doors is generous cupboard storage, while the four central drawers provide practical additional space. The upper drawer retains its fitted and divided interior, originally intended for cutlery.
Despite its generous storage capacity, the sideboard has elegant, relatively compact proportions and a low profile, making it suitable for a wide variety of traditional and contemporary interiors.
The original Vanson maker’s label remains present inside one of the drawers.

As expected for an authentic piece of furniture dating from the 1960s, there are some minor age-related signs of previous use, including occasional light scratches, small marks and gentle surface wear. These are consistent with its age and do not detract from its overall appearance or functionality.
