An exceptional quality Art Deco burr walnut sideboard by the renowned London cabinetmakers S. Hille & Co. Ltd., dating from the circa 1920s period.
A particularly striking and beautifully designed piece, displaying outstanding burr walnut veneers with wonderfully rich figuring and warm golden tones throughout. The stepped and projecting front gives the sideboard a strong architectural presence, while the distinctive sweeping curved design across the central doors creates an especially elegant and unusual focal point.
The front is further enhanced by crisply carved foliate detailing running down the vertical edges, adding depth and refinement to the overall design. The beautifully made decorative central handle, together with the matching lock fittings on the outer cupboards, reflects the exceptional attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship associated with S. Hille & Co. Ltd.
The central section opens to reveal a spacious interior fitted with adjustable shelves, while the outer cupboards provide further practical storage. One side also incorporates two useful internal drawers with attractive recessed brass handles.
Raised on eight wonderfully shaped swept and scrolled legs, the sideboard has a light and elegant appearance despite its substantial proportions.
The original S. Hille & Co. Ltd. maker’s label remains present inside, bearing the Lea Bridge Road, London–England address.
